Sire: Chateau's Country Casanova Dam Eaglehawk Isabella This little guy is special - lovely straight legs and real presence. Isabella's Sire is Chateau's Little Remus, and her Dam is Taranganba Georgia Brown, (whose sire was Ass-pirin Acres Little Bit of Magic). JOY Miniature Donkey Stud is delighted to announce that Glynda Bluhm has agreed to take on the position as Stud Master of the Miniature Donkey herd recently purchased from Donkey Magic. Glynda brings over three decades of Donkey breeding experience, and a wealth of knowledge, which will benefit all of the Donkeys at JOY Miniature Donkey Stud. Feb. 2010We are delighted to have had the opportunity to purchase the Miniature Donkey herds from Taranganba Stud and Donkey Magic. We owe a great deal to the foresight and breeding skill of Keith and Barbara Hoole at Taranganba Stud, who have spent many decades leading the way, and investing in establishing the different breeds of donkeys we have in Australia today. We are honoured to have so many Taranganba Donkeys in our herd at JOY Miniature Donkey Stud. We are also extremely grateful for Glynda Bluhm's dedication to breeding top-class Miniature Donkeys - many of which are descended from the Taranganba, Ass-pirin Acres, and Country Music bloodlines. Our investment in purchasing these herds reflects our ongoing commitment to diversifying the bloodlines we use in our breeding program to help us plan each mating to produce the best conformed miniature donkeys possible.
We have also been working with breeders in the USA to identify more of the type and colour of American Miniature Mediterranean Donkey we are so keen to breed here in Australia. As a result, we are delighted to announce that we have purchased four more black and white Jennies from USA, which will be imported over the next few months – these include: Sophie’s Splendor – thanks to Jill Coussens at Timberland Acres Stud. Fishers Painted Elaine & Verle (with foal at foot) – thanks to Joe and Bill Fisher. Little Friends Tahiti – thanks again to Nadia at Little Friends Ranch. Sophie's Splendor Aug. 2009We are delighted to announce that HR Flashdance and her two Jack foals, Dogwood Hills Shadow Dancer, and JOY's Flash Gordon have at last been released from quarantine surveillance. They arrived in Australia in September 09! I now have Flashdance and Flash Gordon running with JOY's Star of Hope and her Jack foal Stargazer, so the two boys can play together. I plan to breed Flashdance and Hope to Conrad's In Black n White once the weather gets a bit warmer. Update on the 2006 imports
In November 2006 we imported Pygmy Acres Alice, and Copperass Creek’s Belle in foal to Lamb’s Exotic Ranch S-Cort (see photo left). They foaled safely in 2007, both having jenny foals – JOY’s Moon of Madison, and JOY’s Sonnet of Sylvia. See them on JOY’s Jennies page. Alice and Belle had foals at foot sired by Crown Meadow Figgy Newton (30.5”). Copperass Creek’s Cupid has turned into the most delightful compact Jenny. Cupid won 1st place in the 2-5 year old Miniature and AMMD classes at the Royal Canberra Show in 2009.
Copperass Creek’s Startrek is our current herd sire. He is stocky and gorgeous, and extremely dark, with a white star. See more of Startrek on JOY’s Jacks page. Nine 100% AMMD foals were born safe and sound at JOY Miniature Donkey Stud in 2008. See them on JOY’s Foals page. More importing in 2008In 2008
While searching for new bloodlines to import from USA, I found the most wonderful Donkey I have ever seen – check out Napoleon here. Inspired by this incredible Jack, I decided that I wanted to inject dark broken colours into the AMMD stock in Australia, (Chateau’s Little Remus, whom I imported from NZ in 2002 was the first broken coloured AMMD in Australia), and that I would aim to breed Donkeys with NLP, to avoid the usual problem with broken coloured donkeys of pink skin around the eyes and muzzle. Interestingly, the first Donkey I ever bought, ‘Wally’, was dark spotted, and he was the reason I fell in love with Donkeys – strange that after 9 years I have come full circle in preference for small Donkeys with colour. So my search took on a new focus, and I purchased 2 chocolate brown Jennies, in foal to a skewbald Jack, a dark brown and white spotted Jack with a black muzzle, and a black Jenny with a black Jack foal at foot, and in foal again to the same black Jack. - C& L Sweet Thing and Heiken Ark’s Tammy. Thanks to Nadia at Little Friends Ranch.
- GM Conrad’s In Black n White. Thanks to Gary at Conrad Stock Farm.
- Dogwood Hills Flashdance and Dogwood Hills Shadow Dancer. Thanks to Ron at Dogwood Hills.
See these Donkeys on the Jacks and Jennies pages. It is a long-term plan, with each member of the herd playing a role. In 2009
We will breed broken coloured Jennies to Copperass Creek’s Startrek. He has just turned 3, and is a very good looking dark brown/black Jack, with a black cross and white star. We are hoping he will produce dark spotted foals in 2010 to broken coloured Jennies, and dark foals to gray-dun Jennies, which can then be bred with our broken coloured Jack in the future. In 2009/2010
Brown and black Jennies will be bred to GM Conrad’s In Black n White, hoping again for dark spots. Any white or dark spotted Donkeys will be bred to JOY's Flash Gordon in 2011. The goal is to breed black and white, as well as dark brown and white colours with NLP – it will be fun to see the results – watch this space! We have recently purchased
Three part-bred Jennies from other studs to kick start this plan – Taranganba Mirage, and Donkey Magic’s Koca Kola and Marquette.
Donkey Magic Koca Kola very dark Grey, NLP. Very square, correct and dark all over. Donkey Magic Marquette a very interesting Grey, with a white blaze on her face and the black nose that I am looking for. I just love her great bone, dark nose and white blaze.

Mirage is related to Marquette on her dams side, and apart from having a lot of colour, which I like, has also thrown a foal with NLP, so I am hopeful that even though she has pink skin, she will not throw this to her foals if bred to by black nosed Jacks. |
